Reconstructive Surgery after Skin Cancer Removal
Mohs Surgery is an efficient skin cancer treatment. During Mohs Surgery, a suspicious mole or tumor is surgically removed and then immediately examined by a doctor to determine the presence of cancer cells. The doctor can continue to remove tissue samples until no cancer cells remain, meaning follow-up surgery is not usually needed. Although Mohs Surgery is an effective cancer treatment, patients may be left with large open wounds or areas of damaged skin on highly visible areas like the face and neck. As a result, patients may also require some form of reconstructive surgery to repair the wound and minimize scarring. Depending on the size and location of the tumor, Dr. Rubinstein can provide a variety of cosmetic repair options to help mend the skin. Sutures, skin grafts and rotational flaps can be used to help the wound heal and provide the best cosmetic result.
