Dr. Rubinstein

From Harvard to Washington University to UPMC to UCLA, Dr. Rubinstein has sought the most rigorous, high-volume, and prestigious education and training, so his patients with concerns ranging from simple to very complex can achieve their goals without undue stress and worry. With expertise in the full spectrum of plastic and hand surgery, from blepharoplasty and breast augmentation to post-bariatric body contouring to complex hand and wrist reconstruction, patients can rest assured – his experience, evidence-based methods, meticulous attention to detail, and compassion are on their side.

After graduating from Harvard magna cum laude in 2000, Dr. Rubinstein attended the most selective medical school in the United States, the Washington University School of Medicine. There, he was introduced to the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery. After graduating in 2004, he was accepted into the renowned Plastic Surgery training program at UPMC in Pittsburgh, the busiest hospital system in the country. There, he studied under the world’s foremost authorities in hand and upper extremity trauma and reconstruction, body contouring surgery and composite tissue transplants, and performed hundreds of microsurgical breast, extremity and facial reconstructions in addition to the complete range of state-of-the-art plastic surgery.

Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery

To broaden his practice to include orthopedic hand and upper extremity surgery Dr. Rubinstein came to southern California to complete one of the nation’s top orthopedic hand surgery fellowships at UCLA. He was part of the surgical team that performed the first human hand transplantation in the Western United States.

Dr. Rubinstein has published articles and lectured nationally on a range of topics. He has received awards for his teaching, and believes strongly that patient education is essential to positive experiences.

Practice Philosophy

Wholehearted in his approach to care and serious about excellent results, Dr. Rubinstein believes a well-timed touch of levity and laughter can put patients at ease. He aims to educate patients, to clarify and demystify their conditions and treatments, so they can make good decisions with confidence. He believes that treatment strategies can and should be tailored to the individual’s needs and goals. He avidly reads medical journals and attends national conferences to keep new technology and new information at the service of his patients. He communicates regularly with his patients’ physical therapists and hand therapists in order to coordinate optimal rehabilitation. He loves what he does.

Dr. Rubinstein lives in Thousand Oaks with his wife and two sons. He enjoys baseball, tennis, photography, hiking, music, and people.
