Cubital Tunnel Syndrome
Cubital Tunnel Syndrome is also known as ulnar neuropathy and is caused by increased pressure on or compression of the ulnar nerve. It is often characterized by pain, tingling or numbness in the elbow or funny bone area that can also radiate to the ring or little fingers. In more severe cases, cubital tunnel syndrome can also cause muscle weakness in the hand.
Dr. Rubinstein can diagnose cubital tunnel syndrome during a physical examination. Sometimes electromyography is also used to confirm a diagnosis. The procedure measures the activity of the muscles and the nerve cells that control them. Mild cases can be treated by avoiding placing pressure on the elbow or by wearing a protective pad or splint. For more severe cases, Dr. Rubinstein can perform surgery to relieve pressure on the ulnar nerve.
